Dean Cleverley masters his tee shot with Tour Edge

September 01 2009
Club fitting always surprises me, the difference in performance in well fitted clubs can be remarkable, especially if the player's current club(s) are significantly away from a good specification. We had such an example on our Tour Edge Demo Day with Dean Cleverley.
Dean plays to an 11 handicap. His problem was with the driver: the ball flight was low and erratic, some shots were fine but too many were wide both left and right. Having tried a few alternatives, we ended up with a club with less loft, (remember the flight was low). The key was a substantial change in the shaft to one that was much firmer and designed to encourage a ball flight that was airborne early - still going forward at the top of the flight rather than starting off low and stalling as was the case. The new appropriate flex of the shaft controlled the direction whilst the new flight gave added distance. This was Dean's first experience into club fitting. The day after we had a conversation during which he told me that he "would never buy another club without being fitted".
